Emergency Management

Where to go in an emergency:

The Brooks Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is at the Fire Station (722-3015). In an emergency we will rely heavily on the Fire Department for manpower including rescuing stranded citizens.

The Varney Building (24 Veterans Highway Brooks, ME 04921) may be used as a warming center (kitchen available) with volunteers running the facility. Alternatively, the Fire Station (19 Purple Heart Hwy, Brooks, ME 04921) may be used, depending upon the circumstances. If overnight shelter is required, Mount View High School (577 Mt View Rd, Thorndike, ME 04986) will be the designated shelter. Pets are welcome at the Emergency Operations Centers, too!

In the event of an Emergency, such as a severe storm, when residents might lose power/heat, contact the Fire Station (722-3015) to determine where you should go. You can also check for updates on Facebook ("like" the Brooks Volunteer Fire Department).

Please spread the word about the emergency shelter options! Our biggest obstacle is making people aware of what is available BEFORE an emergency.  Once the power lines are down reaching people will not be easy.
